Toy Story 3 Argument of Evaluation

How do you define a good movie? A good movie cannot simply be measured by the awards it wins, though this does play a role. A good movie must also have a moving and original plot, along with excellent special effects or animations. Produced in 2010 by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animations Studios, Toy Story 3 not only meets this criterion, but goes above and beyond being just a ‘good movie’.
A sequel to Toy Story and Toy Story 2 the characters return to the screen as their owner Andy begins packing for college. After not being played with for years when Andy was a teen the toys have given up hope of being loved again, so when they are mistakenly put in the trash instead of the attic they decided it would be better to head to the Sunnyside Daycare where they could be played with. Here they meet all new toys and are gladly welcomed to what seems like toy heaven.
Upon arrival at Sunnyside Daycare Woody tries to convince Buzz and the gang that their proper home is with Andy, yet none of the other toys agree so Woody leaves the Center with hopes of returning to Andy. As Woody is adventuring towards home, Buzz and the rest of the toys discover that Sunnyside is not as great as it had seemed, realizing that Woody was right. Now the toys must embark on a suspenseful adventure in an attempt to escape the daycare and return home safely (Toy Story 3).
In this film Pixar outdoes itself with the advanced animations; in some of the final scenes the details are truly amazing. The movie won multiple awards for being the best animation of the year, including a Hollywood Film Award (Toy Story 3 IMDb). The casting is wonderful, with Tim Allen voicing Buzz Lightyear and Tom Hanks voicing Woody these loveable characters come to life and you find yourself becoming attached to the toys. Both Hanks and Allen won a blimp from the Kids’ Choice Awards for the Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie (Toy Story 3 IMDb).
The writing and plot line of this Toy Story doesn’t fail to make viewers laugh and smile while also providing emotional parts. While the closing scene is sure to make you cry, there is a perfect balance between humor and sincerity. There are many scenes which will make you laugh out loud, including when Buzz becomes set to Spanish mode or when Barbie and Ken have a fashion show in their dream house. Scenes such as these keep the mood light, while the suspenseful climax of the film keeps viewers intrigued. This original story has a strong moral and gives an emotional feel that anyone can relate to.
This film is a must see for all movie lovers. It is a fantastic end to the Toy Story Trilogy, with the same great characters and a hilarious and emotional plot Toy Story 3 is easily the best animated film ever produced.

  1. First of all... great movie choice! I love this movie! The movie itself seems hard to evaluate, seeing as though its a classic animation film that people seem to love, so there's not much controversy. But you pulled it off. One thing that i was interested about is your choice in criteria. You used the aspects of advanced animations and story line as elements of criteria to talk about. I think its a good idea to judge an animation film on its animations in general, so well done there. One thing you mentioned to provide ethos to your argument on animations was the awards the movie won, specifically for its animations. That really plays a key role in making your argument valid, showing the reader of your evaluation that you aren't the only person who judged the animations, Hollywood did too. Overall, you approached this evaluation with structure, organization, and thought. It was simple and down to the point, but definitely provided insight on aspects of the movie that i'm going to look for the next time i watch it! Very well done!

  2. Jack, I think you did a great job in stating the criteria of a "good movie". In doing this, it allowed me to understand why Toy Story 3 was classified as a good movie. I also think you did a great job in summarizing the movie. It was breif and to the point and helped me understand what the movie was about. I feel that your evaluation was strong because you used ethos and talked about how the movie won awards, as well.
