Just Go With It: Evaluation
In the romantic comedy, Just Go With It, a man, Daniel Maccabee (played by Adam Sandler), tricks women into thinking he is a married man. After being shot down by his soon-to-be wife, he decided faking marriage would allow him to find women. While Danny was on his hunt for a young woman, he found a girl named Palmer that he started to like. His lies progressed, and he successfully tricked Palmer into thinking he was a married man. Palmer was not fond of the idea that she was dating a married man, so Danny tangled his web of lies even more. He told Palmer that he was getting a divorce, but Palmer wanted to hear it from his “wife”. Danny convinced his friend and assistant Katherine Murphy (played by Jennifer Aniston) to cover for him and pretend to be his wife. After being caught up in all his lies, Danny started to change and really get to know Katherine. Danny actually falls in love with Katherine after realizing that she was “the one”, not Palmer.
Overall, this movie was very entertaining. According to the article “What Makes a Movie Entertaining?”, an entertaining movie is one that makes you feel good and one that has the power to move an audience. This movie was able to move me and make me feel happy (Albanese). Also, an entertaining movie is one in which the plot is interesting and the characters are funny. In Just Go With It, all of the characters had a sense of humor and the plot was amusing.
This movie was entertaining mainly because of its humor. In the movie, the characters all had a light and happy attitude and were constantly making jokes. Since the movie was so humorous, I was entertained and could forget about what was going on around me. This movie also kept me engaged because of the unique plot. This plot was like no other because it was a little unrealistic, but it was really funny. I truly enjoyed the movie because the plot was something that entertained me.
Even with a unique plot, some may think that Just Go With It is too unrealistic. Some may believe that a movie cannot be good/ entertaining is its plot is not real or based on something that will never actually happen. However, a true critic knows that a movie can be entertaining even if the plot is unrealistic. True critics understand that someone can be entertained by a “fake” plot because the movie allows them to escape from reality and just enjoy the movie. Just Go With It did this and allowed me to focus solely on the movie and just be entertained.

  2. Overall I think that this is a good review of the movie. I liked how you started off with a summary followed by an explanation of what makes a good movie, and how this movie meets that criteria. Also, by naming the director and different actors, and citing your sources you create ethos for yourself. In addition, you showed the possible feelings of the other side making a direct response to these ideas makes the audience see how this movie really is entertaining. Through out your response I can tell that you really were interested in the movie.

  4. You cleverly considered the counterargument of how the movie could be considered unrealistic and defended your point successfully. I love the way you incorporated the numerous examples of personal experience into your review for emphasis and persuasion. Your claim and criteria were clear, precisely detailed, and backed up to meet the measures of a good argument. You took into consideration all the reasons that make this movie entertaining such as the plot, characters and dialogue and showed why this movie can help one escape reality and enjoy while watching it. My only concern is that you revealed the ending in your summary of the movie. Instead, you could’ve mentioned something about the hilarious confusion and hysteria created as a result of the fake names, Katherine's kids, Eddie or their trip to Hawaii. But other than that, your well thought-out organization is clearly evident and your ideas flow well. All fans of comedy movies who read your fantastic review are most likely going to watch this movie in the near future.
